+1 card stack
The cross-border and no-FX credit card stack (Canada)
This is a layer, not a full wallet replacement. Keep your domestic earners, then add one card you use only for foreign-currency spend.

- Snowbirds who spend months in the US.
- Frequent travellers and USD online shoppers.

- Still earn something abroad when possible.
- Carry a backup network where Amex is weak.
Common friction
- Few true no-FX cards.

When this stack is not for you
- You almost never spend in foreign currency.
- You expected Cobalt or Platinum to be no-FX — The Platinum Card charges a 2.5% foreign currency conversion commission, and other Canadian Amex personal cards add a conversion commission as well.
- You live in Quebec and were counting on Home Trust — it is not offered there.
- You wanted Brim for foreign spending. Brim charges a 1.5% foreign transaction fee on the World Elite card and on the no-fee Brim Mastercard.

A USD-billed Canadian card is worth it when you already keep a U.S. dollar account and spend in USD often enough to beat the USD annual fee. It does not help with euros.

FAQ
Is a USD-billed card the same as no-FX?
No. A USD-billed card helps if you hold USD and want to avoid conversion on the statement currency. A no-FX CAD card skips the issuer conversion fee on foreign charges. Many snowbirds use both ideas — compare the US-dollar hub.
Can I just use my grocery card abroad?
You can, but a typical ~2.5% conversion fee often costs more than the rewards you earn. Run the annual FX cost on your real travel spend.
Do I still need a domestic earner?
Yes. Keep Cobalt, Momentum, Tangerine, or your family stack for Canadian spend, and reserve the no-FX card for foreign currency.
